Diagnostic & Emergency Group Home

Hope For Youth provides Diagnostic, Emergency and Respite residential services for children and youth for the purposes of stabilization, evaluation and overall treatment planning to aid in successful growth and healthy living.

About the Program

The Hope For Youth Diagnostic and Emergency Group Home provides a safe and secure environment for adolescent males and females while providing behavioral stabilization through therapeutic milieu treatments.

HFY Diagnostic & Emergency Group Home

The Hope For Youth Diagnostic and EmergencyGroup Home is located in Amityville, Long Island and referrals and intakes can be facilitated 24/7. The group home provides 12 co-ed beds in comfortable single bedrooms, dietician planned and professionally prepared meals, socialization, age appropriate indoor and outdoor recreation and expert supervision by specially trained childcare workers.


Referrals of male and female adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 are accepted from the Nassau and Suffolk County Departments of Social Services, Departments of Probation or by order of a family court judge. In addition, youth are placed here through the Nassau and Suffolk Crisis Respite Bed Network.

Diagnostic Evaluations

  • Comprehensive psychosocial assessment (including parent/guardian home visit)
  • Intake medical examination
  • On-site schooling (class size ratio of 12:1:1)
  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Full psychological evaluation
  • Substance abuse screening (includes intake drug screening)
  • Level of care recommendation
  • Treatment recommendations


Our expert and professional staff includes 24-hour childcare worker coverage, an on-site licensed Master’s level social worker, a licensed clinical psychologist, board certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, registered pediatric nurse practitioner and New York State certified teachers.

Residential Preventive & Crisis Respite Program

In working with youth and families in crisis, there are instances when a brief placement of adolescents into respite care, especially when in conjunction with other services, can significantly help restore family functioning and avert long-term placement or hospitalization. Legal guardians/parents are required to remain fully involved while their child is
in respite care.
  • Intake medical examination
  • Transportation to and from the child’s home school
  • After-school tutoring services
  • Availability of on-site schooling if needed (grades 7 and up)
  • Structured after-school and weekend schedule 
  • Indoor and outdoor recreation, including full-day summer recreation
