Hope For Youth clinical staff were excited to attend a 3 day training in the SAMSHA approved evidence based model of family therapy, Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT).  HFY was honored to have the training presented by the founder of the MDFT model, Dr. Liddle and an outstating trainer from the MDFT International, Shazia Kareem, LPC.  Our therapist and case managers from our three residential prevention program; the OASAS licensed Outpatient Clinic, Community Reinvestment Program, and Supervision and Treatment received this training with intent to be certified as MDFT therapists and caseworkers.  This training enhanced our staffs’ inspiration and knowledge to work with youth and families.  Therapists will continue to be trained through ongoing supervision by the MDFT International Trainer for the next 6 months before they can receive their MDFT therapists’ certifications.  MDFT program supervisor also will be trained to receive certification as MDFT supervisor and trainer.  MDFT team is proud and looking forward to gain knowledge in one of the most effective therapy models that addresses teenage substance use and family discord.

Hope For Youth received a $25,000 grant from Newsday Charities, a McCormick Foundation. This grant will address unmet complex needs of youth in our programs; particularly those who enter our Youth Runaway and Homeless Shelter Program. HFY will use these funds to ensure all youth receive proper medical, dental and vision care despite their insurance coverage.  We will also use funds to transport youth to school, therapy, and medical appointments or provide them with bus tokens so they can continue to participate in their personal commitments while staying at the shelter. These young people have often been dealt a very painful hand in life as victims of abuse and neglect, while with us we will work to ensure all their basic needs are met and work intently with each child and their family to restore and/ or rebuild the family connection when possible or seek out a healthy alternative. To learn more about our Homeless and Youth Runaway Program please follow our Facebook page.

Accepting the Newsday Charity Grant are David J. Hegarty, Executive Director, CEO and Kate Travers, LCSW, Director of Program

Thank you Newsday Charities!

Hope For Youth partnered with LIGALY to offer an informational STI/ HIV session to the teen clients within our programs. Through open questions and answers, interactive games and clarifying terms, the workshop provided our teens with a better understanding of HIV/AIDS and STI prevention. This interactive workshop gave our youth the opportunity to learn about HIV and STI prevention methods and touched on the background, treatment and myths of HIV and STIs. LIGALY even offered free testing for HIV and different STIs for each of the teens. The workshop was a wonderful learning opportunity for each teen in attendance.

Yesterday was the last day of our Holiday Gift Drive! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The gifts are piling up and the tree is beautifully decorated. Thank you to our generous donors for spreading holiday cheer to the children at HFY! You made a difference in our community and in the lives of children, youth and families on Long Island with your donations.

The holiday season have arrived... Will you give?
Hope For Youth will officially kick off their 2016 Holiday Gift Drive tomorrow November 29th, 2016.

We invite you to support Hope For Youth this holiday season. No matter how much help and care we give our children in learning how to maintain and grow their place in society, it is still a reality that they are celebrating the Holidays away from their natural families. Your generous donations beginning on #GivingTuesday will make the holidays happier and brighter for these special children.

As we prepare for our holiday gift drive, "Hope For The Holidays" -- we hope you will spread the word among your family, friends, and co-workers that by donating to HFY this holiday season you will be making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and teens on Long Island.

All donations should be new and unwrapped. Contact Bridget O'connor at
Or donate here
