Hope For Youth

LI Coalition for the Homeless Candlelight Vigil Event

Hope For Youth was proud to be a part of the annual Have a Heart for the Homeless Candlelight Vigil event coordinated by the Long Island Coalition for The Homeless. Held at Farmingdale State College on April 10th, Roosevelt Hall was filled with hundreds of people, bringing together members of the community, those who wish to raise awareness, homeless/at risk Long Islanders and agencies who work to serve them. Inside the venue information for persons in need was available, in addition to free financial literacy sessions, haircuts, health screenings, face painting, story time, and other services. The homeless, and those at risk of becoming homeless, were invited to walk around and utilize these services, as well as grab some hot dinner, snacks and drinks. Throughout the night essential items such as new winter coats, new/unused baby items, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies and toiletries were collected and later distributed to those in need.

Hope For Youth was happy to not only share information about our Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter, but to also raise awareness about the homelessness and hunger that exists right here in our rather affluent community. The work that the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless does is truly inspiring, reaching thousands of people every year with their services. Hope For Youth looks forward to continuing our relationship with them through educating the public about homelessness and advocating for those whose voice may otherwise be overlooked.
